this product is handmade from an extraordinary natural material, raffia.
the raffia fibers come from the palm fronds and all rice raffia products come from madagascar which is also where the story of rice began.
our raffia baskets and raffia houses were some of our first products. the production takes place in two villages in the mountains of madagascar and supports more than 300 families on the red island.
Since raffia is a natural material and the products are handmade, each product can vary in size and this variation is also reflected in the colour.
this means that no two products are ever quite alike, which we think is part of the appeal. if exposed to direct sunlight, colors may fade over time. the color of raffia products may come off when exposed to liquids.
